Jennifer Newman

Jennifer NewmanJennifer lectures in Aboriginal Studies, Communications, Adult Education and Indigenous Social Policy. Prior to this appointment she was a lecturer in Aboriginal community development at Cumberland College of Health Sciences, University of Sydney.
Jennifer has developed a range of awareness raising courses and materials for health workers. She has a Bachelor of Social Science from the University of Western Sydney, Macarthur.

Dr Karen Vaughan

Karen VaughanKaren lectures in Indigenous Australian Studies, Information Technology, and Program Development. Karen has worked in the Faculty of Education's, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Programs Office since 1992, working in the areas of administration and student support before her appointment to a lecturers position in 1999.
During this time Karen has completed a Bachelor of Arts in Communications; and a Master of Education in Adult Education degree, and PhD at the University of Technology, Sydney.

Bertie Watts

Bertie Watts

Bertie is our student counsellor for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in the Bachelor of Education. He also does considerable consulting work and guest lecturing.
Bertie grew up on a riverbank in an Aboriginal community in outback NSW offers a rich and varied work experience. At an advanced age he successfully completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Welfare Studies at the University of Western Sydney, Macarthur, and went on to complete a Master of Education in Adult Education degree at the University of Technology, Sydney.
Bertie lectures in schools, prisons, universities and TAFE colleges about contemporary issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. In 1992 and 1993 he developed and delivered a series of over 20 awareness raising workshops to members of the NSW Police Force.

Melanie Saunders

Melanie SaundersMelanie is the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student Support Officer in the Faculties Academic Programs Office. Melanie organises travel and accommodation for block programs and can assist students with University administration issues. Melanie is usually the first point of contact for students and applicants.

Leanne King

Leanne KingLeanne coordinates the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander block strand of the Bachelor of Education in Adult Education. Leanne lectures in Indigenous Australian Studies, Information Technology and Program Development.
Leanne is a graduate of our BEd in Adult Education and our MA Indigenous Social Policy.
