The following are examples of graduate employment from the BAOL. Students tell of their initial jobs after graduating from the course:

Ula Szczesnik

In my role as an elearning Analyst with Cubic Consulting, I am responsible for designing and developing eLearning courseware, as well as maintaining and supporting Cubic’s eLearning tools. In my first 6 months, I have been involved in 3 major projects. These have given me the opportunity to experience different aspects of eLearning, including designing program scripts, attending voice recordings, coordinating photo shoots, building client relationships and project management. I have worked with various eLearning technologies to develop training programs including Adobe Captivate, Flash and Cubic’s LCMS. I am also responsible for technical support of clients using Cubic’s eLearning tools, as well as maintaining documentation and training materials for Cubic’s internal tools.

Melinda Bell

I am now enjoying my new role as the Learning and Development Coordinator in the People and Culture Group at ING Australia, where my responsibilities include managing and maintaining the Learning Management System. I also facilitate training sessions for new starters on how to access and use the system. The e-learning component of my degree in particular assisted me in getting this job.

Anika Balmer

I am working as a Vocational Trainer for an employment agency. Our clientele are adults with mild intellectual disabilities. So basically I assist in finding jobs for our clients, training them in their jobs and providing continuing employment support. I have used many subjects of the BAOL in this job. Certainly the training and evaluation subjects have been the most use to me. However subjects such as Project Management, Psychology in the Workplace, Strategic HR and e-Learning has helped me grasp the organisations role and future goals, as well as assisting me with my clients needs and business demands.

The great benefit about the BAOL is that we can venture off into any field we are interested in. That’s because every organisation in every area requires training, HR, e-Learning knowledge and management skills. We are lucky to have such a broad range of studied skills and knowledge, which is unlike most other degrees.

Michelle Bosevski

My graduate role was as a HR Graduate at Sparke Helmore Lawyers. It involved a combination of short and long term projects incluing: assisting with recruitment coordination including drafting and placing advertisements, candidate screening and reference checking, learning and development coordination through being responsible for booking lawyers and support staff into training sessions, and training evaluations & reports.

My long term projects include assisting with the Performance and Development Review Process, Annual Salary Review Process and developing a coding system to identify trends in exiting employees. I really enjoyed my time there and my degree definitely gave me a more thorough understanding of the role of the Human Resource department within a large firm. I would definitely say that I used what I learnt in my BAOL degree in my roles.

Sarah Wright

I worked for a large recruitment company called Select Australasia. My official title is "Payroll Hotline Verifier/Administrator." My role works in a team of three to verify the timesheets of close to 7,000 temp staff. We also work on the payroll hotline, which involves helping candidates, consultants and clients with any queries. My degree has really assisted me when it comes to communicating with many different people, of different ages and backgrounds. Subsequently, I am aware of the fact that people learn in lots of different ways, and we need to be aware and sensitive to this, and be open to change ourselves. It has also greatly helped me when it comes to planning projects, and organising everyday tasks.

The degree both directly and indirectly helped land me the job. It was the work experience component that assisted me the most. I had been doing work experience in a small recruitment company, working on a number of projects, and putting together training manuals. This combined with what I told my employers in the interview room about our degree greatly impressed them.

Hayley Slack

My graduate position was as a HR Administrator with Challenger Financial Services Group.  This was an expanding broad based financial services organisation renowned for its innovative, leading edge products. My position as HR Administrator involved supporting one of the Business Partners with HR related tasks such as; employment contracts, temp staff members, general correspondence, general admin, ad hoc HR project work such as reviewing the resourcing strategy, development of HR intranet etc.

I also supported the People Development Manager, duties include: research, development and implementation of New Starter orientation, development of individual modules - time management, research, liasing with external training providers, creating and maintaining training/budget register, reviewing material. I have used some of what I learnt in my degree especially in terms of the Learning & Development work.
