What the students say

The following are quotes from Bachelor of Arts in Organisational Learning students.

Jacqueline Karim

“I chose UTS because of its work with employers in the industry to develop courses that made graduates ready for the workforce. I particularly choose to study the BAOL because I wanted a feel for both the Education and Business Faculty without having to be locked into a course that offered no flexibility.

I like the way the BAOL incorporates real subjects and assignments that can be applied in the workplace. In our fist year we were designing training programs and analysing the needs of differing work environments that are topics we are likely to repeat in our career. The standard of teaching provided is excellent especially in the Education Faculty, and because of the smaller classes you are able to get more feedback and help from the lecturers.

In the future I would like to go into designing training programs in a variety of organizations and eventually I hope to be running my own consultancy company.”

Cassandra Brooks

I chose UTS and this course because I wanted to be able to learn business skills but differentiate myself from all the other business students! With this degree I feel like I am completing a business degree with a difference, like being able to do subjects related to psychology, technology, as well as HRD.

I work voluntarily for an organization called AIESEC which is a student run global organization in over 89 countries around the world developing youth leaders through facilitating exchange programs. I think the best aspect of the degree is that everything I’m learning in theory in class I’m then putting it into practice at AIESEC. I was part of the Human Resource Team for a year and this allowed me to use all my HR skills learned in my BAOL degree! Now I am widening my knowledge and developing my leadership skills as Director of the exchange team. I run recruitment, induction, applications, screening of applications who wish to go overseas, interview potentials, and facilitating the exchange.

In the future I would like to go on a Management Exchange or an Education Exchange with AIESEC. After graduation AIESEC will find me a paid HR position overseas in a reputable company working for a year and gaining that international experience one can only gain through travel!

Tanya Blencowe

“I chose the course because of its credibility in the workplace. UTS is a Uni that knows what business wants, and in Organisational Learning, you get a very broad perspective of the whole Human Resources area, as well as a picture of what happens in individual workplaces. There are about thirty students and the lecturers are so supportive and helpful. They have a real interest in the individuals in the class and want them to do well. Work is changing so much, people don’t stay in the same job forever, and to have a broad range of skills like those provided in Organisational Learning is incredibly beneficial.”

Summer Antico

“For those people who are interested in a degree focussed on what organizations are made of and their respective relationships in today’s business world, this course is for you! The combined business and education faculty subjects create an interesting balance in which to develop a sound understanding of the industries we will soon be entering.”

Sally Morris

“The course is excellent for someone who wants to work in an organization but does not enjoy all elements that a business degree offers. You not only learn about the subjects involved but you also learn a lot about yourself."
