Graduate entry degree
This is a graduate entry teacher education preparation course which is able to be completed in 1 year of study by students who have an undergraduate degree in an area of specialisation. It provides a qualification accredited by the NSW Institute of Teachers to teach in secondary schools in the following specialist areas:

- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- Visual Arts
- Personal Development, Health and Physical Education

- Mathematics / Computing Studies
- Science / Computing Studies
- English / History
- Commerce / Business Studies / Economics
|
To be qualified as a teacher you must complete undergraduate subject content studies in addition to a teaching qualification including Years 7-12 teaching methodology and professional experience in all subject(s) (main and additional) in which you intend to seek approval to teach. The table below is a guide to undergraduate degrees and subjects for the BTeach entry requirements.

Maths
|
A major* in pure or applied mathematics (must include algebra and calculus).
|
|
Science
|
A major* in science of four units in either biology, chemistry or physics and two units in another of science subjects. Or Earth and environmental science – major* in science of one unit in biology and one unit in geology or environmental science and two units in chemistry or physics and two other science units. (Science study must include Physics or Chemistry)
|
|
PD/H/PE
|
A major* in personal development and/or health studies and/or physical education with at least three units of study in health education including mental health, sexual health, relationships, drug education, child protection education, gender studies and risk taking behaviour, AND at least three units of study in physical education including contemporary physical activities, dance, gymnastics, games and sport.

|
English#
|
A major* in English with at least 3 units of a strong core of textual studies including literature.
|
|
Languages (LOTE)
|
A major* in a language.
|
|
Visual Arts
|
A major* including all of the following: practical studies in 2 and 3 and/or 4 dimensional art forms, art theory/history (a minimum of one year), and studio art making practice (a minimum of one year).

|
Commerce / Business Studies / Economics
|
Business studies/commerce – major* in business related studies including at least one unit of finance or accounting and one unit of business management and remaining units drawn from: business law (Australian/ English), economics, human resource management, industrial relations, marketing. Or Economics – major* in economics.

|
History#
|
Ancient history – major* in history in areas such as ancient history, archaeology. Or Modern history – major* in history in areas such as Australian history, contact and Aboriginal history, early modern history, historiography, modern history.

|
Computing Studies#
|
A major* in computing or computing technology including at least two units that develop skills in information and communications technologies and information systems eg database design including relational databases and communication systems/networking. Or A major* in computing or computing technology including at least two units that develop skills in the design and development of software.
|
|
# Second Teaching Area
|
If you wish to be qualified to teach a second subject you are required to undertake at least two years (4 units) of undergraduate (and appropriate postgraduate) studies with at least 2 units at level 2 or above, and at least one teaching method unit and professional experience in that area.

|
* Major
|
A major is three years of degree level study with at least 4 units at level 2 or above
|

How to Apply
Local students apply through UAC with first round applications closing 31 October, and final round closing 31 January each year. International Students apply through the UTS International Office.
