Languages Teaching at UTS

UTS has a strong tradition in Languages teaching courses catering to many local and international students training to be secondary school teachers. The course is now offered as the Languages major in the graduate entry degree Bachelor of Teaching in Secondary Education. The graduate entry degree allows students with a relevant undergraduate degree to receive Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) to a maximum of 72 credit points enabling completion of the course in 1 year of accelerated mode of study.

The Languages major is an initial teacher training qualification in teaching Languages other than English (such as Japanese, Chinese, German, French, Italian) in secondary schools or language colleges in Australia.  Students study a range of subject areas including Languages Teaching Methods subjects and participate in up to 60 days of professional experience teaching in schools. They will also learn with students in all majors the other important education subjects related to secondary teaching.

Local students apply through UAC Postgraduate Study from September, while International students apply through UTS International. International students need an IELTS score of 6.0 with 6.0 in writing for this major.
