What the students like about the BTeach at UTS:

At the end of the first year (2007) of the new BTeach graduate entry degree students were asked to rate the course and state what they liked about it. The students overall rating was 4.13 out of 5, in the good-excellent range. The following is a sample of their comments:

Morgan, Science
The strengths of the BTeach course at UTS include the excellent use of practical school teaching as well as the speed at which we complete our degree and great teacher support.

Kahrina, Visual Arts
Everyday at university has given me the opportunity to listen, look and learn about the people around me. The BTeach offers us the time and supportive environment that we would only find here at Uni. The course also offers practicum experiences in schools where the critical learning occurs. I have thoroughly enjoyed the dynamic interaction with prospective teachers who share the same passion – to make a positive difference in education.

Gary, Maths
It’s a 1-year program, which assists those who are transitioning from industry.

Rowell, Science
The Teaching methods subjects are the strengths because they have a lot of techniques to tackle the syllabus. The course is very practically orientated which is good.

Monique, PD/H/PE
It was good to be able to do the whole course in a year and there were generally a broad variety of subjects. I particularly enjoyed learning about educational philosophies and current issues in education.

James, Science
Excellent practicum program and great lecturers.

Jason, English/History
I like the fact that it can be completed in 1 year. I also love Kuring-gai campus.

Amy, Science
The Digital Learning subject. Plus, all the lecturers are extremely approachable; there is plenty of support, and a great variety of teaching experience in lecturers.

Celia, Commerce/Business Studies/Economics
The practical emphasis on teaching

Jes, Visual Arts
The wide variety of subjects each with a clear need and purpose. Its great visual arts course that really prepares us for teaching

Ingrid, Science/Maths
I like the blend of high ideals and practicality. The course presenters encourage us to aim for the highest standards in teaching practice while never losing sight of the reality of the classroom experience. The emphasis on student-centred learning and use of current technology provides an excellent foundation.

Lognjac, Maths
The course is very well designed with good lectures and tutorials. The practicums are placed in it with good perspective to test real teaching.

Gary, English
The opportunities of being involved in the community at the grass roots, learning and understanding how teaching works, and what effect I can have on young people.

Lucinda, Visual Arts
The lectures and guest speakers information was highly interesting, informative and practical. It was also inspiring and positive. The lecturers were on the ball, helpful and generous in their knowledge and feedback.

Emma, PH/H/PE
The fact you can complete a degree in less than 12 months. Great lecturers and tutors, most of them are experienced and knowledgeable.

Malcolm, Maths/Science
There were some excellent and professional lecturers and innovative subjects, such as; Digital Learning Design and Professional Learning Portfolio.
