Could all students make sure that they have handed in their prac reports if
they haven't already done so. Those students who have handed in reports can
now come to the Professional Experience Office to collect their white copies.
Prac 8 students need to supply the Professional Experience Office with a copy
of the reference from their co-operating teacher.
About the Teacher Education Professional Experience
Students enrolled in pre-service teacher education programs in the Faculty of Education will complete significant teaching and learning experiences in schools. The Professional Experience program engages students in two interlinked elements: (i) campus based studies examining the range of pedagogical issues, skills and procedures which foster the development of sound professional practice, and (ii) field experiences where students are placed in schools and other educational settings for practical engagement in a variety of teaching/learning interactions.
The following are key features of the teacher education Professional Experience program at UTS:
- The Professional Experience is developmental. It provides a sequence of experiences which build upon earlier teaching/learning achievements and articulate with other aspects of the students' course work.
- The Professional Experience emphasises continuing reflection and self evaluation as integral to teaching as a professional activitiy.
- The Professional Experience is enquiry based and collaborative. It engages teacher education students, cooperating teachers and university staff in focused activities designed to foster a better insight into the phenomena encountered.
- The Professional Experience acknowledges schools and classrooms as sites for UTS student learning, as well as school student learning.
- The Professional Experience is interpretive. It requires that students develop an ability to diagnose, negotiate and act upon what is observed and experienced in and beyond classrooms.
- The Professional Experience is concerned with the development of insight, empathy and understanding. The variety of settings in which students are placed offer many kinds of social and professional interactions.
- The Professional Experience is professionally focused. In each Professional Experience experience, key professional competencies, linked with the students' learning on the campus, are accentuated, practised and analysed.
