Student income supported extended to MA Music Therapy

Students undertaking selected masters by coursework programs in fields including law and architecture at the University of Technology, Sydney are eligible for Commonwealth student income support for the first time following a change in Government policy.

With effect from the first of January, the Federal Government has extended access to the Youth Allowance, Austudy and the Pensioner Education Supplement to selected professionally-oriented masters by coursework programs around the country.

At UTS the approved courses are:
Juris Doctor
Master of Architecture
Master of Arts in Music Therapy
Master of Industrial Property
Master of Planning
Master of Professional Accounting

UTS Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor Peter Booth said an added bonus was that rent assistance is also being extended to cover mature-aged students (aged over 25) who are receiving Austudy.

"These changes are very welcome, especially for students studying Architecture, which involves both a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and a Master of Architecture to fully qualify as a practicing architect," Professor Booth said.

The Government will consider adding further masters by coursework programs to the eligibility list mid year.
