Teaching Areas:
Teaching areas include the sociology of education, education leadership and education policy. He teaches in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs and supervises research students in these areas.

Research Areas:
There are two main areas of research interest, the first is in education policy studies where Geoff is interested in the history of education in Australia and in particular in government education policy and the extent to which this has both responded to and constructed public interest in schooling. The second area of interest is in the problems of practice confronting education leaders and policy makers. Most recently this has focussed on school violence and student suspensions and expulsions in NSW. With Professor Andrew Gonczi he has completed two reports on these issues in government and non government schools.
