Kimberley began her career as a primary teacher and has recent pre-school to year 7 teaching experience in the independent school system. She has worked as a classroom teacher and coordinator of gifted education. In 1997, Kimberley was awarded the Teachers' Guild of NSW Award for Excellence in the Early Years of Teaching. She has been actively involved in the delivery of professional development courses for teachers since 1995.
In 1999, Kimberley commenced her PhD studies at the University of Sydney after receiving an Australian Postgraduate Award. She has conducted a research project to explore processes involved in the development of interest in learning science and technology in an authentic classroom context. Kimberley was employed in contract lecturing and research assistant positions in the Faculty of Education at UTS from 1997 until 2003. In 2004 she was appointed in the continuing position of Lecturer in Learning and Practice-based Education.

Kimberley is a team member of the Museums Actively Researching Visitor Experiences of Learning (MARVEL) research project. Most recently, the focus of the project has been on adolescents' experiences of learning in museums. Since 2005, Kimberley has been involved in evaluation projects with the Kids' Design Challenge, a science and technology program for primary school students in NSW.
Community and Professional Activities:Kimberley is involved in program development and research at Youth Off The Streets, a community-based organisation that supports chronically homeless youth by providing accommodation, education, vocational counseling and outreach services. She is currently a member of the management team and a volunteer at Key College in Surry Hills and formerly has coordinated the national alcohol and drug education program, GetReel. In 2003-2004, Kimberley was the academic partner in an action learning project at Villawood North PS. The project focused on professional development activities to support teachers' practices in fostering students' engagement in science and technology. This project was part of the Australian Government Quality Teaching Programme. With Janette Griffin, Kimberley supported Turramurra North PS as it reviewed and developed its science and technology curriculum in 2004.
