Professor Brady has been involved in teaching and research in teacher education for nearly 30 years. Previously a head teacher of English in a secondary school, he has been Head of Department of Education Studies; Coordinator of the M.Ed and Dip.Ed; and coordinator of Practicum. As well as being a Professor in the Faculty of Education, Professor Brady is the research group leader of TLD (Teacher Learning and Development) and was a former leader of the research strength CERG (Change and Education Research group).
Teaching Areas: Professor Brady has a keen interest in undergraduate teaching, notably in the professional studies or practicum strand of teacher education. He currently teaches student-centred education, assessment and reporting, and the design of educational programs. He has supervised many research students.
Research Areas: Professor Brady researches the area of curriculum implementation, and more specifically assessment and reporting. In recent years, his research reflects an interest in the impact of the national curriculum, particularly in relation to the emergence of outcomes and assessment and reporting in an outcomes framework. His interest in curriculum design/implementation includes a research focus on the impact of innovation and of new classroom pedagogies. A more recent research interest involves the operation of school-university partnerships.
Community and Professional Activities:Professor Brady serves on several Department of Education and Training steering and consultative committees; is consulting editor for four international journals; has chaired a number of university committees; and has been a consultant for community education institutions.
Publications: Professor Brady is the author of 17 books and 63 refereed journal articles. Selected major book titles include: Teacher Voices.
