Matthew currently teaches across two programs in the Faculty. He coordinates the e-learning related subjects in the BEd (Prim) and BTeach (Sec) programs and is interested in innovative technology-based learning in K-12 and teacher education contexts. Research Areas:
Matthew's research and development interests are in the area of e-learning. He is a member of the Faculty's Designs for Learning research cluster. He recently completed the following funded projects (also see related papers): 1. Developing pedagogy using student-generated digital video with A/Prof. S. Schuck. (Funded by Apple Computers Australia and UTS Industry Links grant.) 2. Teachers as e-learning designers with 2 other colleagues. (Funded by ASCILITE Grant.) 3. Investigating technology-mediated, project-based learning, with 3 other colleagues. (Funded by Schools Innovative Learning Cooperative (SILC), as part of their ASISTM project.) 4. Investigating pedagogy using interactive whiteboards with A/Prof. S. Schuck. (Funded by Centre for Learning Innovation (CLI), DET and Electroboard) His PhD thesis focussed on the the design and use of multimedia supported predict-observe-explain (POE) tasks in science learning. In 2002, he contributed to the ICT-based Learning Designs Project by describing the learning design behind multimedia-based POE tasks, and also by designing and developing (downloadable) POE e-shells - generic tools that can be used by educators to build their own multimedia-based POE tasks using a web page editor.
Community and Professional Activities: Matthew is a member of the following professional organisations: NSW Computers in Education Group (NSWCEG) Australasian Society for Computers in Learning in Tertiary Education (ASCILITE) NSW Institute of Teachers Matthew also is involved in ITD/Education Faculty liaison.
